Training

The College provided training to 4,980 personnel during 1997. The courses with the most participants were Oleoresin Capsicum (920), Glock Transition (656), First Aid/CPR (480), Management Level III (400), and Policing and Diversity (300).

"LiveLink", the Service's internal television network, aired elven training presentations covering topics such as hate crime, hold-ups, pursuit driving and interviewing techniques. The First Offender Prostitution Diversion Program (the John School) delivered eighteen sessions to 700 offenders. Program co-ordinators monitor all service training initiatives to ensure consistency with Service goals and objectives, community and organizational needs and operational standards.

C.O. Bick College, in partnership with the Canadian Police College, delivered a series of management training courses.

Three recruit classes were provided with dynamic simulation training and experimental learning. The "real life" situations were a new and innovative approach to recruit training. Special emphasis on tactical communication was introduced.

A new drug course was designed. The sexual assault and child abuse courses were delivered by C.O. Bick staff in Toronto and at the Ontario Police College.

Fifteen traffic investigation courses such as Autosketch, Collision Reconstruction, Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection and the new Heavy Truck course were presented.
