A Social Media Guide To G20 Summit (updated June 27)
Send this story to someone | Printer-friendly page

20100614_g20_social_media.jpgThe Toronto Police Service has created a G20 social media guide for the June 26-27 summit of world leaders in Toronto.

Social media will be used by the G20 Integrated Security Unit, (ISU) before, during, and after the summit, to update the public and media with official information, which is both timely and accurate.

“If the purpose and process of the security measures are properly explained in advance, from the official source, the payoff will be an educated and informed public, who will understand the security measures and the effects on those living in and around the summit security zones,” said Meaghan Gray, Public Affairs and Community Relations, Toronto Police Service G20 Planning Team.

Access to official G20 information is available on the ISU website http://G8-G20ISU.ca, on your Smartphone on YouTube, on Facebook and Twitter.

The ISU, made up of RCMP, Toronto Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Canadian Forces and Peel Regional Police personnel, is handling security for the Toronto summit.

Several public service announcements, aimed at educating the public about the upcoming G20 meetings, have been videotaped and posted to TPS YouTube channel by the Toronto Police Service’s Public Information and Video Services Units.
