20090313_d14_boxing_lessons_1.jpgOfficers from 14 Division’s School Watch and Priority Response Unit (PRU) are taking a jab at boxing lessons alongside neighbourhood youngsters.

Each Saturday, officers step into the ring with community kids to learn basic boxing skills from amateur boxer and community volunteer, Miranda Jollymore.

With the help of officers, Jollymore runs the program through the Youth Assisting Youth (YAY) organization – a non-profit charitable organization that runs mentorship programs for kids ages 6 to15.

Jollymore teaches kids the value of discipline, determination, positive attitudes and confidence through the art of boxing.

For the most part, Jollymore is a mortgage broker, however, she’s had formal boxing training at the hands of Olympic silver medalist, Egerton Marcus.

The program runs every Saturday at noon, at the Harbourfront Community Centre on Queens Quay West, at the foot of Bathurst Street.
