CANDIDATE FOR VICE PRESIDENT AT LARGE I am a candidate for the newly created Vice President at Large position of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Board of Officers. HATE CRIME Hate motivated crime has many faces and wide reaching consequences; in most cases it represents the voice of intolerance and bigotry intended to harm and intimidate someone because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
Chief Fantino Recognized by Italian Government On Friday July 4, 2003, Chief Julian Fantino of the Toronto Police Service was awarded one of Italy's highest honours at a ceremony held at the Italian Consulate in Toronto. Now it's a one-man race! Toronto, June 23, 2003 - The deadline has passed for those who wish to file for a position on the Board of Officers of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. As of the end of the business day, Friday, June 20, 2003, Chief Julian Fantino was the only IACP member who had formally announced his intention to run for Vice President at Large at the Association's Annual Conference in Philadelphia this October. Chief Fantino is now in a one-man race for Vice President. Acclamation can only occur when IACP officials meet at the Annual Conference to render a formal declaration in accordance with constitutional rules. In the meantime, the Julian Fantino campaign will continue to reach out to IACP members worldwide to address their concerns and to ensure they are heard at the Board level. "I'm looking forward to serving our membership and working with the Board of Officers", said Fantino. "But between now and then, there is much to do and I am very confident that I'll be up to the task and ready to join my colleagues at the executive table in the fall". Recently, Chief Fantino has been overseeing the investigation and arrest of a man now charged with the murder of Holly Jones in Toronto last month. Fantino's leadership has been central to the investigation and has attracted considerable public discussion" Fantino on the campaign trail! The deadline for candidates wishing to file their intentions to run for IACP Vice President is rapidly approaching. Even though no other chief of police has stepped forward, Chief Fantino has been hard at work, speaking out on a variety of important issues, with no time to think about the fact that he may be in a one-man race after June 20th.Recently, he has been thrust into debates concerning a national sex offender registry in the wake of the murder of little Holly Jones and new police enforcement strategies in response to changing views on the decriminaliztion of marihuana. And he still finds time to pursue and promote his greatest passion concerning honesty, integrity and professionalism in policing. Recently, the Chief made headlines and attracted a lot of attention following a speech he delivered to the Ontario Club. |
