The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Rueben GRANT 19 years.
On Wednesday April 5, 2000, just prior to midnight, the deceased and an associate were walking towards the north parking lot of 1817 Martin Grove Road in Etobicoke.
An unknown person passed them on the walkway, walking in a southerly direction. No words were exchanged.
Moments later, this unknown person turned around and proceeded north on the pathway and walked towards the two. As the suspect reached the parking lot, he produced a handgun and fired. The victim was shot in the neck.
Later, friends appeared and dragged the mortally wounded Rueben GRANT to a nearby residence.
Emergency services were contacted and attended the scene. Members of Number 23 Division Uniform and Criminal Investigation personnel attended along with Toronto Fire and Toronto Ambulance Services.
Forensic Identification Services and the Homicide Squad were subsequently notified.
The victim was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital and placed on Life Support which was continued until Saturday April 8, 2000, when the victim was officially pronounced dead at 6:00PM.
A Post Mortem examination revealed the cause of death to be; “SINGLE GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE NECK AND SPINAL CORD”.
A surveillance video seized from the housing authority depicts the shooting. A suspect is seen arriving minutes before the shooting; parking his vehicle and essentially lying in wait for the deceased.
The suspect is also seen leaving the scene in his vehicle.
Investigations are continuing.
