On Wednesday, July 11th, 2001 at about 6:36 p.m., patrol cars from 31 Division responded to a radio call with regard to gun shots fired in the area of 11 Blue Grassway which is in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area.
Upon the arrival of the first patrol car, the deceased Gregory George WHITTAKER was located lying at the rear entrance to 11 Blue Grassway suffering from a gun shot wound to the head.
The paramedics and fire department arrived on scene and attempted to give WHITTAKER medical attention but were unsuccessful. WHITTAKER was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner attended the scene and ordered a post mortem examination conducted on WHITTAKER.
Members of the Homicide Squad were notified and took over the investigation.
Investigations reveal that, WHITTAKER, an associate and two other young men, were near the rear area of 11 Blue Grassway talking.
All four of them entered an underground parking lot area. One of the young men entered the building at 11 Blue Grassway. The other three men remained within the area of the underground parking lot.
Within a very short time, three suspects riding bicycles entered the underground parking area where WHITTAKER, his associate and the other young man were. Two of the suspects entered from one direction while the third entered from another. All three suspects approached WHITTAKER, the associate and the other young man.
Two of the suspects drew handguns from their waistband and one of them discharged his weapon at WHITTAKER striking him in the head. The same suspect then turned his gun toward the associate and discharged his weapon striking him in the back. Two of the armed suspects then allegedly robbed the third young man that was with WHITTAKER and the associate.
The wounded associate made his way to Hospital where he received medical attention for the bullet wound and was released.
The other young man that was allegedly robbed by the suspects, was not shot and it is unknown at this time where he went after the alleged robbery.
Investigations are continuing by the Homicide Squad in conjunction with members from 31 Division.
