Details of Investigation
The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of James R. CHAMBERLAIN and the subsequent investigation conducted by members of the Homicide Squad.

On Saturday, May 6th, 1995, at approximately 6:19 a.m. a 9-1-1 Emergency call was received at the Communication Bureau, regarding the discovery of a body in the school yard of the Yorkwoods Public School, 25 Yorkwoods Gate.

Police from 31 Division responded to the scene and was met by Department of Ambulance Services personnel. The now deceased was Vital Signs Absent. The deceased was located lying on his back, along the east fence of the school yard adjacent to the Driftwood Avenue townhouse complex.

Detectives from Forensic Identification Unit attended and took charge of the scene.

Detectives of the Homicide Squad were notified and took charge of the investigation.

Investigations conducted by members of the Homicide Squad have revealed the following:

On Friday, May 5th, 1995, sometime after 9:45 p.m. the now deceased became involved in an argument with a male suspect, in the courtyard between number 28 and 34 Driftwood Avenue. During the course of this argument, the suspect demanded money from the deceased and subsequently assaulted and stabbed him.

The now deceased was observed walking west from the courtyard, towards the Yorkhill Public School, with the suspect following him. The suspect was then observed walking southbound in the complex towards the Grandravine area. The now deceased made his way to the school yard, where he collapsed and eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased’s vehicle was located in a parking lot at 18 Driftwood Avenue.

The investigation is continuing.
