The male had been transported to the hospital by his three friends from a location in the Kensington Market area of 14 Division. There were injuries to the male that appeared to be consistant with a stabbing.
Detectives from 14 Division Detective Office were contacted and commenced an investigation.
The victim was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m.
Detectives of the Homicide Squad were contacted and took charge of the investigation. Forensic Identification Services was notified.
Investigations have revealed that the deceased had been at the PHO DONG PHAT Karaoke Restaurant located at 15 St. Andrews Street in Toronto with a number of his friends. The group were preparing to leave the restaurant when another group of approximately 10 to 20 people entered and sat at the next table. Members of this group were recognized as being involved in a recent altercation with the deceased and his friends at the B.C. Cafe located at 77 Huron Street, Toronto.
The victim and his friends felt threatened by the reappearance of the group and retreated to the basement washroom of the restaurant to avoid any confrontation.
The victim and a female friend decided to approach a member of the group in the front lobby of restaurant in an attempt to calm any potential problems between the two groups. After a very brief conversation, the victim was pulled out the front door by members of the group and savagely beaten.
The victim was punched, kicked, and assaulted with an aluminium baseball bat and a knife. During the attack the female friend tried to protect the victim who was now lying on the ground.
Friends of the victim placed the unconscious male into a vehicle and drove him to the B.C. Cafe. After a short time at that address they transported him to a friend’s apartment. The victim was then transported to the Wellesley Hospital.
The investigation is continuing........
