The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Anthony SHAND and an injured male.
On Monday, June 8th, 1998, at about 1:14 a.m., Police from 42 Division were travelling eastbound on Cowdray Court, Toronto. While patrolling, the officers heard a number of gunshots coming from the area of a nearby Club. There was also a mass exodus of vehicles coming from the club that interfered with the arriving officers.
While the Police Officers arrived at the club they discovered the now deceased on the floor in the lobby area of the club suffering from gunshot wounds.
Department of Ambulance services and members from 42 Division attended at the scene. The now deceased was transported to hospital for treatment.
Detectives from 42 Division C.I.B. attended at the scene and took charge of the investigation. As a result of their preliminary investigations, they contacted the Homicide Squad.
The Homicide Squad attended at the scene and took charge of the investigation.
Forensic Identification Services attended at the scene and conducted forensic examinations.
At 1:55 a.m. Anthony SHAND succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation has revealed that the injured male was also in attendance at the Fit For Life Fitness Club at the time of the Homicide. At the time of the shooting he ran through the front doors of the club to escape. It was at this time that he discovered that he had been shot in the left leg. He was transported, by friends, to hospital where he was treated and released.
On Monday, June 8th, 1998, at 1:00 p.m. a Post Mortem examination on the deceased was conducted. It was determined that the the cause of death was MULTIPLE GUN SHOT WOUNDS.
It was been determined that there were between 150 and 200 patrons in attendance at the dance. The majority of them left prior to the arrival of police.
The investigation continues.
