The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Douglas WYTON.
On Thursday September 23, 1999, at approximately 21:14 hours the Toronto Police 9-1-1 operators received several calls. The callers reported hearing a single gun shot and reported a male collapsed on the sidewalk in the area of Cornwall Street near River Street.
Officers from No. 51 Division, the Toronto Fire Department and the Toronto Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene.
Police from the Police Dog Services and a Sergeant from 51 Division were the first officers to arrive on the scene. The Sergeant took charge of the scene.
Paramedics and Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and attended to the victim. The victim was rushed from the scene to hospital for further medical attention. Police accompanied the victim.
Members of 51 Division attended and secured the scene. Members of the Police Dogs Service and the Emergency Task Force commenced a search of the area.
Detective from 51 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau were notified of the incident and took charge of the investigation.
The Toronto Police Homicide Squad was notified attended the scene and took charge of the investigation.
Detectives from the Forensic Identification Unit attended the scene and conducted Forensic examinations.
Members of the 51 Division Area Foot Patrol conducted a thorough search of the area from where the incident occurred over to the Don Mount Court area.
On Saturday September 25th, 1999 at 08:30 hours Provincial Pathologist Doctor Toby ROSE conducted a Post Mortem Examination on the deceased. As a result of her examinations the cause of death was determined to be A GUN SHOT WOUND.
The investigation is continuing.
