The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of JAPP, Albert, Nathaniel, 28 years, @ “STICKY.”
Albert Nathaniel JAPP was born in Jamaica. Albert’s formative years were spent in his native Jamaica. The family came to Canada in 1976 and settled in the suburb of Downsview. Albert became a Canadian Citizen on January 7, 1986.
On Thursday, February 18, 1999, in the afternoon hours, Albert and three of his compatriots arrived at 80 Mornelle Court, Scarborough. They attended the apartment of an associate. There, he drank a few beers, watched television, ate dinner
At approximately 10:45 p.m. , Albert indicated that he was going to attend the store to purchase a toothbrush and then return to the apartment.
Later, the sound of several gunshots being fired in the proximity of the fifteenth floor west stairwell of 80 Mornelle Court.
A male in his 20’s, dressed in dark clothing and sporting a black winter tam, was seen running up the stairs. 9-1-1 was called. This call was logged by 9-1-1 dispatch at 11:05 p.m.
Four other calls were received by 9-1-1 dispatch in relation to the sound of several gunshots.
Due to the nature of the call, members of the Emergency Task Force entered the apartment complex. Uniform members of No. 42 Division also arrived on scene.
Emergency Task Force members along with a Tactical Paramedic Team, discovered the body of the now deceased, Albert JAPP, sprawled on the stairway of the twelfth floor east stairwell of 80 Mornelle Court. JAPP had been the apparent victim of gunplay. The scene was immediately secured with the assistance of uniform personnel from No. 42 Division.
The Tactical Paramedic Unit in consultation with a local hospital, assessed JAPP and death was pronounced at 00:30hrs.
Investigation has determined that the deceased, Albert JAPP, was confronted by unknown male(s) in the west stairwell of the landing situated between the fifteenth and fourteenth floors.
With his attackers still in pursuit, JAPP ran eastward along the hallway of the fourteenth floor and as he approached the elevator, a second shot was fired, striking JAPP in the left side of his left thigh, in line with the base of his pelvis. This bullet travelled in an upward trajectory and exited at the mid pubic mound, having struck a femoral vein. JAPP continued to run towards the east stairwell of the fourteenth floor, he was now bleeding profusely. He then continued down the stairs onto the twelfth floor stairwell and subsequently collapsed on the stairs leading down from the twelfth floor landing.
On Saturday, February 20, 1999, a Post Mortem examination was conducted on the body of Albert Nathaniel JAPP by a pathologist, The cause of death has been determined as “ GUNSHOT WOUNDS” coupled with subsequent blood loss.
Investigations are presently ongoing.
