The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Anand PATEL.
On Saturday April 15, 2000, at approximately 2:58 a.m., Department of Ambulance Services Paramedics were travelling eastbound on Queen Street West near Brock Avenue, when they were flagged down by persons standing on the sidewalk near 1275 Queen Street West. The now deceased was located on the sidewalk and was immediately transported to hospital. At the same time, an Emergency 9-1-1 call was received at the Toronto Police Service Communications Bureau regarding a shooting at the same location.
Uniform personnel from No. 14 Division attended the scene and members from No. 14 Division Detective Office commenced an investigation.
The Homicide Squad was notified, attended and took charge of the investigation.
Investigations conducted by members of the Homicide Squad have determined that the now deceased was standing near the After Dark Nightclub with several males and an altercation ensued. The deceased was shot during the altercation.
The investigation is continuing.
