On Monday, October 1st, 2001 commencing at approximately 21:27 hrs, several emergency calls were received at the Toronto Police Communications Bureau regarding the sound of gunshots in the vicinity of Avening Drive in the former City of Etobicoke.
Police from 23 Division Primary Response Unit responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they located members of the Toronto Ambulance Services and Toronto Fire Services tending to the now deceased, a 23 year old male near the front door of a residence situated at that location.
Despite resuscitation efforts, the male was pronounced dead.
The crime scene was secured under the direction of the Sergeant. Members of the Emergency Task Force, and Police Dog Services attended the scene, and conducted a search of the area.
Detectives from 23 Criminal Investigation Bureau arrived and commenced the preliminary investigation.
The deceasedís body was subsequently removed to the Coronerís Building at 26 Grenville Street, Toronto.
This investigation is continuing.
