The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Saravanah YOGARAJAH and the subsequent investigation into his murder.
On Sunday September 16, 2001 at approximately 10:00 p.m. officers from 42 Division responded to a 9-1-1 call to 5600 Sheppard Avenue East, Milley's Coffee Shop for a shooting.
At approximately 10:01 p.m. police arrived on scene. They observed a man obviously suffering from gunshot wounds. He was lying on the pavement of the parking lot at 5650 Sheppard Avenue. Police went to this male’s aid and commenced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, continuing until the arrival of Paramedics.
The victim was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives from 42 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau attended and took control of the scene. The Homicide Squad was notified.
Investigations have revealed that the victim was in company with a friend at this location. They were replacing the front signal lights in the friend’s car. The friend walked away. At that time, two, as yet unidentified males approached the victim. Without warning, the two individuals opened fire on the victim.
The unknown persons then fled in a northerly direction and were observed entering a vehicle that was parked on a side street. The vehicle left the area as the witnesses were calling 9-1-1.
The investigation into this matter is continuing with the assistance of 42 Division.
