The following is a report regarding the death of Cecil HINDS and the subsequent investigation.
On Friday the 24th of August 2001, at approximately 12:10 a.m. officers from 23 Division responded to an emergency 9-1-1 call to 53 Silverstone Drive Unit regarding the sound of gunfire.
At approximately 12:15 a.m. the first officers arrived on scene. They observed a male lying on the floor in the entrance of this townhouse with a woman holding a towel to the victim’s right side.
Emergency Medical personnel immediately followed the officers into the premise. Efforts to prolong life were fruitless and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Homicide Squad was notified.
Investigations to date have revealed that the deceased in this matter was earlier playing basketball with a friend then attended his house for a drink. The two were seated on a plastic bench.
At approximately 12:09 a.m., three unknown males emerged and began shooting in the direction of these parties. The now deceased and his friend ran for the door of a unit.
Mr. HINDS was shot as he was trying to reach cover.
The suspect fled northward through backyards to a waiting vehicle parked at Silverstone Drive and Mount Olive. The vehicle then sped westward on Mount Olive Avenue.
Investigations into this matter is continuing.
