The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Zahir LALJI.
On Saturday March 03 2001, the now deceased was in the company of a number of his friends at a night club called The Roxy Blue at 12 Brant Street in 14 Division. An altercation erupted inside the bar between members of LALJI’s party and a second group.
The two groups left the premises whereupon they were met in a nearby parking lot. A fight broke out.
The altercation was brief but left Zahir LALJI laying on the ground with a serious cut. His brother, who was part of the group, applied some initial first aid until ambulance staff arrived. Three of the victim’s group were also assaulted sustaining minor injuries.
14 Division uniform officers attended the scene. 14 Division CIB attended and took charge of the investigation.
Forensic Identification Services was notified of this matter. Detective Constables Martin DOYLE and Neville MILLIKEN attended and conducted the forensic examination of the scene. At that point in the investigation, the victim was still alive, was listed as stable but in critical condition.
The Homicide squad was notified and began to monitor.
On Sunday March 04 2001 at 2252 hrs, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Detective John LOUGHLIN and Detective Randy CARTER of the Homicide Squad were notified and attended 14 Division taking charge of the investigation.
The investigation continues.
