On Saturday, May 11th, 1991, Thozamile Benson Mbele was standing at a bus shelter at the intersection of Keele Street and Dundas Street West, along with two friends.
At 1:45 p.m., Morro Jagana, 39 years-of-age at the time of this crime, arrived at the location. An argument started between Mbele and Jagana, in relation to a domestic situation which involving Mbele’s girlfriend.
The accused drew a knife, and after a physical altercation, stabbed Mbele in the chest. He then dragged him across Keele, to a parking lot located on the west side. There Mbele collapsed.
A number of citizens saw what was taking place and made 9-1-1 calls. Officers responded and arrested Jagana at the scene. Thozamile Mbele died from his injuries at Toronto Western Hospital. Jagana was charged with 2nd-degree murder. Morro Jagana eventually made bail, and subsequently absconded. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of 2nd-degree murder.
