On Monday October 8th, 2007 at approximately 2:20 a.m., Toronto Police responded to a report of shots being fired at the Hungarian House Cultural Centre situated at 840 St. Clair Avenue West. Upon arrival, police located Keegan Allen lying on the dancehall floor. Keegan Allen sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Hospital where he later died.
Earlier that evening, an urban talent competition, billed as “Showdown 2007” was being held at this venue. It was an “all ages” event which attracted many young people. The audience size was reported to be at approximately 600. During the final competition, moments before the awards were to be presented, an unknown person produced a handgun and fired multiple shots. It was evident that one of the shots struck Keegan Allen. There is no information at this time that Keegan Allen was targeted, and may in fact been an innocent spectator.
Members of the Homicide Squad have interviewed many of the patrons. The investigation is presently ongoing and will continue until the person(s) responsible for the murder of Keegan Allen are arrested and brought to Justice.
