Details of Investigation
Jermaine Drew EDWARDS was 20 years of age at the time of his death. He was residing at 191A Booth Avenue, Apartment # 8, in the City of Toronto, with his girlfriend.

On Thursday, December 5th, 1996, at about 11:27 p.m. Metropolitan Toronto Police Communications Bureau received a telephone call from a male, a resident of 540 Sherbourne Street, Toronto. The caller advised that he had discovered a body in a main floor hallway at 540 Sherbourne Street, Toronto. The caller further advised that the male was lying on the ground, bleeding and appeared to be unconscious.

Officers from 51 Division attended at the scene and discovered the body of the deceased lying in a main floor hallway. The deceased was lying at the north end of the hallway at the threshold of an exterior door on the north side of the building. It was apparent that the deceased had suffered from an undetermined number of gun shot wounds.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the death of EDWARDS, the Homicide
Squad was contacted.

At the scene, investigators observed the deceased lying on a back board in a hallway that leads to an exterior door on the north side of the building. It was apparent that the deceased had been moved by emergency personnel.

A large quantity of blood was observed on the floor beside the doorway and several spent shell casings were found near the area of the body. It was also determined that a bullet had passed through the door hitting a garbage dumpster that was situated outside the doorway.

It was apparent that the deceased had in fact been shot a number of times.

It was determined that the deceased died as a result of GUN SHOT WOUNDS TO THE HEAD.

The deceased had also suffered from a number of large calibre gun shot wounds to the body.

The investigation to date reveals that on December 5th, 1996, at between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. the deceased and his friend attended at 540 Sherbourne Street, Toronto to purchase drugs (Crack Cocaine) to sell.

About five or ten minutes after the deceased entered a door on the west side of the apartment building, his friend, who was waiting in a vehicle heard gun shots. The deceased's friend waited for about half an hour for the deceased to return and when he did not, he left the area.

The investigation into the death of Jermaine EDWARDS continues.
