On Sunday, October 24, 1993 at 12:15 a.m., Hossein Ghoodjani, 33 years-of-age at the time of this crime, called 9-1-1 from his home at 225 Glenlake Avenue, Toronto. He told the police communications operator that he had killed his wife with a rope.
Attending police officers met Ghoodjani at the front door of the apartment and found Dorys Delgadillo, 34 years-of-age, his common-law wife, lying in the hall way of the apartment. She was unconscious and was not breathing.
Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department personnel managed to revive the victim and she was transported to hospital. Hossein Ghoodjani was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder.
Dorys Delgadillo never regained consciousness and succumbed to her injuries later that day. Charges were upgraded to 1st degree murder. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be strangulation.
The accused absconded during the preliminary hearing and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of 1st degree murder.
