Approximately 4:05 a.m., on Saturday, March 3rd, 2001, foot and car patrol officers in the area of Queen Street East and Pape heard the sound of a gunshot from the east.
At 4:08 a.m., an occupant of a residence in the 1300 block of Queen Street East, contacted 9-1-1 reporting the sound of one or two gunshots. He indicated that the sounds came from a north-easterly direction; he also heard what he described as screams of panic.
An immediate search of the residential area commenced. At 4:26 a.m., officers checking the alley running east from Alton Avenue and immediately south of the residences on the south side of Gerrard Street, discovered a man sprawled on the snow-covered asphalt.
The victim, determined to be twenty-five-year-old Chad Wynter, had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to hospital for treatment. Despite emergency surgery, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation thus far has revealed little in the form of motive or suspects. The homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help in solving this crime.
