On Sunday July 27, 1997, at approximately 3:34 a.m., in response to 9-1-1 calls regarding shots being fired, police attended the Calypso Hut 3 Night Club, 1230 Sheppard Avenue West, Toronto.
Located at the scene were Michele GONZALES, Ruddin GREAVES and a third injured male. All were transported to hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite medical interventions, GONZALES and GREAVES succumbed to their injuries. The third injured male survived.
Investigations conducted by members of the Homicide Squad have shown that during the course of the evening, security staff removed several groups of patrons from the club. At approximately 3:30 a.m., a male, who may have been removed earlier, approached the front entrance of the club brandishing an automatic handgun. He began firing indiscriminately at the club entrance.
The suspect then ran from the scene in an easterly direction.
The three victims were either standing outside the entrance or in the foyer when they were struck by gunfire. An autopsy revealed that GONZALES and GREAVES died as a result of gunshot wounds.
The Toronto Police Service is asking for the public’s help in identifying the assailant in this callous and cowardly crime.
