Details of Investigation
The following are the circumstances surrounding the death of Hani OTHMAN aged 16 years on April 23rd, 2000.

On Sunday April 23rd, 2000, at 12.13 p.m. a number of calls were received by the 9-1-1 operator at the Toronto Police Communications Bureau to the effect, that shots had been fired at 250 John Garland Boulevard, and a male had been shot and needed medical attention at 246 John Garland Boulevard.

The complex at 250 and 246 John Garland Boulevard is a subsidized housing complex located on the North West corner of Martingrove Road and John Garland Boulevard South of Finch Avenue West, Toronto.

Police from 23 Division were dispatched to the scene.

On their arrival they found the now deceased sitting in a semi-conscious state against the wall of townhouse number 45 at 246 John Garland Boulevard bleeding from a wound to his chest.

OTHMAN was treated by Paramedic and after attempts at stabilizing his condition he was rushed to hospital where at 1:16 p.m. he was pronounced dead.

On Monday April 24th, 2000 a post mortem examination was conducted, and a cause of death was determined to be Gunshot wound to the chest.

The investigation has revealed that a number of shots were discharged at the victim and two others who ran from 250 John Garland Boulevard to the townhouse unit at 246 John Garland Boulevard, a distance of 600 feet, before OTHMAN collapsed.

The investigation is continuing.
