The majority of the Detective Sergeants, Detectives, Detective Constables, and support staff, that are assigned to the Hold Up Squad are assigned to our two main sections of Financial Institution Robbery Investigations and Retail Business Robbery Investigations. We support and communicate with all other police units, and there are Hold Up Squad investigators specifically assigned to these roles for each and every Division in the city.

In 1996, the Hold Up Squad initiated a number of Robbery Reduction Initiatives aimed at reducing robberies in Toronto. Working in partnership with our residential and business communities, internal and external police services, and the media, these initiatives have been highly successful in reducing the annual number of Financial Institution and Retail Business Robberies. In 2003, our Robbery Reduction Initiatives were expanded to include other robbery classifications. Our goal is to achieve even higher standards in relation to robbery apprehension, robbery suppression, and robbery deterrence.
