Meetings Held

On Tuesday the 27th of January 2008, the first community consultation meeting was held with members of the Carleton Village Residents Association. About 20 members of the community attended this meeting and an exchange of productive ideas and information took place.

On Tuesday the 27th of January 2009 a community meeting was held. In attendance were senior management members of The Toronto Police Service, including Deputy Chief Kim Derry of Divisional Policing Command. Other Toronto Police Service members involved in this project and Stantec Architects also attended along with about 50 community members to hear the presentation and ask questions related to the logistics of the building and the moving-in process.

On Friday the 17th of July 2009 the draft design was presented to the Toronto Police Services Board.

On Tuesday the 25th of August 2009 a meeting was held at the Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood Centre. In attendance were senior management members of the Toronto Police Service, including Chief of Police William Blair. Also present at this meeting were representatives Michael Moxam and Tom Kyle from Stantec Architecture Ltd, the design committee and the advisory committee. Approximately 30 members of the community attended the meeting at which time the draft design of the new station was presented.

The Bloor West Villager reporting on the August 25th meeting quotes Chief Blair. "We want this to be a very special place in your neighbourhood. We're trying to respect it, respect its history and create a new history, a new public space that belongs to everyone," said Police Chief Bill Blair, who thanked everyone for their commitment and time. "I want to assure you that we want to minimize the impact on the neighbourhood and maximize the benefit. We want to be good neighbours. We can be good neighbours."

The same Bloor West Villager article reports favourable reactions from community members Claude Bergeron and John Sweeney. “Claude Bergeron, chair of the Carleton Village Residents Association, called the new building "magnificent." "It's been a very easy process and I'm very happy with the results. We will have a landmark in the neighbourhood. The new station is remarkable," he said.”

“Carleton Village area resident and residents association member John Sweeney, who has been instrumental in the consultation process since the first public meeting was held in January 2008, applauded Moxam and Kyle for preserving the historical importance of the building. "I personally am very happy tonight that you've answered our prayers," he said. "This is going to be, I hope, another landmark. I'm very happy for that. This is in my mind a success."
