Architect, Construction Management and Committees

Architect

The architect selected for this project is Stantec Architecture Limited, Architects. This is the same architectural company responsible for the design of the present 51 Station.

Construction Management Services

The construction management service chosen is Eastern Construction Company Limited.

Heritage Advisory Working Group

Role

This group included community members, Stantec Architecture staff and Toronto Police Service members. This group evaluated the existing building at 2054 Davenport for architectural elements of significance to determine which of those features might possibly be incorporated into the new facility. The group met several times to discuss the importance of the existing building, its significance as a source of identity for the local neighbourhood and the impact of future changes to the community. The Heritage Advisory Working Group made recommendations to the Design Team on elements relative to historical significance.

Members

The Heritage Advisory Group includes Toronto City Councillor Palacio his executive assistant, Mike Foderick, and community representatives Luisa Galli, Edna Cuvin, Majero Bouman, Heather Kilgour, Liz Sweeting, Claude Bergeron and Shondel Mayers. The group also includes Stantec Architecture representatives Tom Kyle and Michael Moxam. Michael Ellis and Enrico Pera represent the Toronto Police Service’s Facilities Management Unit, and, Staff Inspector Peter Lennox represents 11 Division.

The Design Steering Committee

Role

The Design Steering Committee consisted of community members, Stantec Architecture staff, members from Toronto Police Service 11 Division and Facilities Management and City of Toronto representatives. The group met biweekly. This committee discussed police operational requirements, adjacencies, building accesses and potential energy conservation initiatives that could be pursued. Community spaces such as the main foyer, civic court and the parkette located at Ford Street and Connolly Street were also discussed. The Design Steering Committee developed the plan and the elevations that were ultimately presented to the Toronto Police Services Board, Toronto Police Service Command Officers and the community.

Members

The representatives who are part of the Design Steering Committee include community representatives Peter Tan and Alex Ling. Michael Ellis and Enrico Pera represent the Toronto Police Service’s Facilities Management Unit, and, Staff Inspector Peter Lennox, Inspector Dave Saunders, Staff Sergeant Bruce Morrison, Sergeant Theresa Monaghan and PC Eric Berridge represent operational staff at 11 Division.

In June 2009 both the above-mentioned committees completed their work. We would like to thank all committee members for their hard work and input. Without their efforts, we could not have progressed as far and as fast as we have, nor could we have achieved the level of agreement and understanding with the community we now enjoy.
