Kim Derry, O.O.M.
Deputy Chief
Divisional Policing Command

Kim Derry joined the Toronto Police Service in 1973. During his policing career he has performed uniform, undercover and investigative duties along with administrative assignments.  He was appointed Deputy Chief of Police in August 2005 and placed in charge of Divisional Policing Command where he is responsible for 4,000 uniform officers assigned to the 17 Policing Divisions throughout the City of Toronto.  He focuses on Toronto Anti-Violence, Traffic, Crime Prevention, CCTV, Youth, School Resource Officer (SRO) and the In-car Camera programs, along with Business Process Re-engineering and STATCOM – a Management Accountability process.

Deputy Derry holds a Certificate in Criminal Justice and Administration from Quantico – FBI Academy, University of Virginia and a Certificate in Police Leadership Program from the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Business Management. In 1994 he was awarded the Canadian Police Exemplary Service Medal for meritorious service to policing and the Chief of Police Award for community service in 2002.  In 2007 he received the Governor General’s Investiture of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, Officer level.  In 2009 he was awarded the Silver Wolf Medal from Scouts Canada for outstanding service to scouting in Canada. 

Deputy Derry has served on many committees to assist the Toronto Police Service and the community at large.  Some of them include the Domestic Violence Advisory Committee, the Workplace Harassment Advisory Committee and the South West Asian and Muslim Consultative Committees to name a few.  He is a member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police serving as Chair to Crime Prevention and a member of the Information & Technology Committees, the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety & Correction Services’ Policing Standards Advisory Committee and the Common Police Environment Group.  He is a member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police serving on their Crime Prevention and Informatics Committees, a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI National Academy Associates.  He has been sworn in as the 2010 President on the National Board of the FBI National Academy Associates worldwide.

Deputy Derry is a member of the Board of Directors of Operation Springboard, a not-for-profit organization that provides programs for at-risk youth. He is recently the Past Deputy Executive Commissioner for Scouts Canada as the lead volunteer responsible for the 100,000 volunteer youth and adult programs, overall honours and awards and the volunteer adult training programs in Canada and presently is an advisor to Scouts Canada on various issues.
